Reading Nerd

I spent most of Monday and Tuesday in a writing workshop, but managed to make it back to my library for the last hour of the day. A student came in to read. "Miss, I'm turning into a reading nerd. I'm reading all the time!" she said. That's my plan for world domination, one reading nerd at a time!

Visit the Library

If you live in the Lordsburg area you have a new opportunity to visit your child's school library and share the gift of reading. Due to extra funding from Project MILES an Improving Literacy Through School Libraries grant, the libraries at the three elementary schools and DTMS will have extended library hours after school and on selected Satudays.
The extended hours are as follows:
RVT:  Monday and Wednesday 4:00 to 6:00 and second Saturdays 11:00 to 2:00.
Southside:  Monday 4:00-6:00 Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:00-5:00 and first Saturdays 9:00-12:00
Central: Monday and Wednesday 4:30-6:30 and first Saturdays 9:00-12:00
DTMS: Monday and Wednesday 4:30-6:30 and first Saturdays 9:00-1200

A Good Book

I finished reading My Name is Falon by Kim Wiese on my Kindle Saturday. The story  follows Falon Macvail from her family's brutal eviction from their farm in Scotland in the 1820's across the ocean to tame new land in Mexico. As Falon comes of age she deals with death, the dangers of a new, unfamiliar land, Native American and slavery issues, and a husband who is less than ideal. The Texan's war with Mexico plays a major roll in the story. I had a hard time putting this story down. I'd recommend it.

About the title

I'm in my second incarnation as a librarian. In my first, back in the 80's, I worked primarily at the elementary level. One of my joys was storytime with the kindergarten kids. One little boy would become so involved he'd talk to the story characters. "Oh no, princess, there's the dragon!" "Stop, it's a man-eating tiger!" he'd yell. Whenever he'd see me in town, even blocks away, he'd yell, "Hey, Libary, read me a story!" But he couldn't pronounce his l's so it would be "Hey, Yibary, read me a story." I couldn't fix the l's, but I did teach him that the library was the room and that I was the librarian, the lady that worked in the library. And that's how, a long time ago, I became the "Yibary Yady".
